National Education Policy Center

Location: Boulder, Colorado

A leading educational research organization, the National Education Policy Center (NEPC) produces and disseminates high-quality, peer-reviewed research to inform education policy discussions. Involving nearly 100 educator- and research-fellows from across the country, NEPC publishes policy briefs, research reports, and the acclaimed "Think Tank Project," which provides the public, policy makers, and the press with timely, academically sound reviews of selected think-tank publications. NEPC is guided by the belief that the democratic governance of public education is strengthened when policies are based on sound evidence.

Highlights:

  • Policy Briefs: Syntheses of existing research, which explain in understandable language the best research evidence about important policy issues. These briefs ask the question, "What do we know about a given policy option?"
  • Research Briefs: Similar in some ways to our policy briefs, these reports present original research.
  • Legislative Policy Briefs: These combine our usual policy briefs with a section providing model statutory code language that will implement the recommendations contained in the briefs.
  • Think Tank Reviews: This project provides short, rigorous analyses of important think tank publications, written in clear, understandable language. Our goal is for a reader or prospective user of a think tank report to learn from our review about the strengths, weaknesses, and usefulness of the report – so that reading the report and review in combination would be substantially more valuable than reading the report alone.
