Self-Determination Theory (SDT) is a theory of motivation. It is concerned with supporting our natural or intrinsic tendencies to behave in effective and healthy ways. There are several surveys related to education and motivation, including Perceived Autonomy-Supportive Climate, Self-Regulation, and Intrinsic Motivation scales. Collectively, SDT research provides one of the strongest pieces of hard evidence for the benefit of supporting students' autonomy and intrinsic motivation.
