Social Justice Education Project

Location: Arizona

The Social Justice Education Project is a two-year student-led research program running in three high schools in Arizona. From the University of Arizona's College of Social and Behavioral Sciences: "The Social Justice Education Project (SJEP) began in 2003 with a class at Cholla High School in Tucson as an attempt to engage Latino youth in the education process. The premise was straightforward: teach students research skills and allow them to use their research to address inequities that students of color experience in public schools." As a result of the program, students have re-engaged in their education, become more aware of social issues, and are more likely to graduate school and attend college.
