The Summer That Didn’t Stop — Inside a Season of Real Learning, Free Meals, and Getting Ready for Fall

Sep 22, 2026 | IDEA Blog

Dear Friends and Family,

With a new school year underway, we’re proud to share the ninth edition of The Community Schools Chronicle, the first issue of our second volume.

This issue looks back at a summer of real learning, full plates, and plans for the fall. Community Schools at Lanier Jr./Sr. High School kept the doors open straight through the summer, supporting student learning, feeding the community, and laying groundwork for the year to come. It’s a story about what it looks like when a school decides to show up in every season.

Inside, you’ll find:

  • The Summer That Didn’t Stop — How Community Schools ran all summer at Lanier, serving thousands of free meals to the whole community, running STEAM and ACT prep enrichment, and turning what the summer taught into a plan for the year ahead.
  • The People Behind PLI — Meet three of the facilitators who make IDEA’s Parent Leadership Institute what it is — and find out how to join an upcoming cohort.
  • Care That Meets the Moment — A new trauma recovery and violence prevention program is joining Lanier this fall, with support from the Center for Hope.

The full Chronicle is included below, and you can also click here to view the PDF version.
