This Year We’re Splitting Our Holiday Donations

This year IDEA is sharing 50% of the proceeds we receive during our end of year donation drive with Comunidad Solar Toro Negro in Ciales, Puerto Rico.

For nearly 15 years IDEA has partnered with Nuestra Escuela, and more recently Vamos Puerto Rico, to support the Decolonization of Puerto Rico. Our shared work seeks to build and support already existing pathways to generate local sovereignty, power, and sustainability in Puerto Rico, with Puerto Ricans.

In Toro Negro, solar power isn’t a luxury but a lifeline and a guarantee of electricity. Nestled deep in the central mountains of Puerto Rico, Toro Negro and communities like it are often some of the last, if not forgotten, stops for disaster relief.

Why Your Donation Matter

Toro Negro
The Solar Community of Toro Negro has done great work to create self-sufficient supports for themselves, and now they need help to prevent long-standing power outages in the future. Their goal is to raise $250,000 to ensure the replacement of the batteries that power the community’s microgrids, which generate solar energy for 28 households in our community.

You can learn more about Toro Negro and their project via GoFundMe. We know you can’t give $250,000 – but if you have $25, or any amount at all, that would be a wonderful contribution.

IDEA
IDEA continues to nurture new and existing ways that we collaborate with students, educators, families, and communities to advocate and build capacity for education equity and racial justice. Jackson, Mississippi continues to be home base for IDEA, and as you can see from this email, we work with partners and communities throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.

Your donation directly increases our capacity to engage on the ground through high quality learning experiences, programming, and support throughout the places we work. Any amount you are able to donate, whether it be a one-time donation, or a recurring monthly donation, is a great support towards sustaining our efforts across the board.
